It’s easy to imagine medical waste as being needles, pharmaceuticals, bodily fluids, and that pesky appendix. However, with the rise of COVID-19 and increasingly strict guidelines for how to operate during a pandemic, the definition of hazardous medical waste has broadened to include masks, other PPE (personal protective equipment), and even food. The increased use of disposable surgical masks and gloves, including among the general public, is creating an environmental impact.

It makes sense that medical waste would need to be identified to warn people that the contents are hazardous and should be disposed of with care. Pollution is not a new concern for the world we live in. It is a leading cause for disease and many more obvious threats to the planet’s health and our own. Back in 2017, a report was written on the pollution effects on the health and wellbeing of people, and this study found that more than eighty percent of individuals living in urban settings around the world are exposed daily to poor air quality well below the World Health Organization’s requirements.

Recently, an article written by Baker Furnace’s own Sergio Luevano was published in Thermal Processing Magazine. Titled “An In-Depth Look at Polymer Quenchants,” Luevano’s article discusses the three main stages of polymer quenching, three popular quench mediums, and the importance of safety surrounding the use of polymer quenchants. The three stages of polymer quenching that Luevano covers are vapor phase, boiling phase, and convection phase. Luevano also goes into detail of the three popular quench mediums, which are water, oil, and polymer quenchant.

Brea, CA – June 25th, 2019 – Baker Furnace, a division of Thermal Product Solutions, announced the installation of a quench tank for a supplier in the heat treatment industry as part of their aftermarket services. The customer had two quench tanks and three drop bottom furnaces and needed the third quench tank in order to optimize quench loads per day.

Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are a variety of chemical gases emitted by certain processes and by some solid objects or liquids. Burning fuels, such as gasoline, wood, coal, and natural gas, produce VOCs.

Augmented Reality allows operators, maintenance personnel, and engineers to interact with the furnace through a tablet. There are three levels available on the furnaces with a PLC: Augmented Operator, Augmented Maintenance, and Augmented Engineering.
